ANSWER
The project to develop a new forensic science laboratory and office accommodation on the Seapark site in Carrickfergus is progressing well. The Full Business Case was approved in June 2025, and a Contractor was appointed in July 2025 to take forward the detailed design and construction phase. Following an initial period of pre-construction design, construction is expected to commence in early 2026.
Forensic Science Northern Ireland is a vital component of the criminal justice system. It provides robust scientific services in support of justice for all. With this investment, we are making sure it has suitable accommodation within which to continue to provide this crucial public service given the increasing sophistication and technological advancement of the techniques that the organisation deploys.
