Answer

Road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users.

My Department is intending to launch a public consultation in the coming weeks on a Draft Speed Limit Review that will gather evidence from across these islands on a number of speed related matters, including KSIs relating to older car drivers. My Department will consider the outcomes of this consultation that will inform a final Speed Limit Review Report which will be published in due course.

One of the best ways to ensure the safety of our roads and fulfil our long-term goal of eliminating death and serious injury on roads by 2050 is by changing driver behaviour. If all of us who are drivers do not change our attitudes towards speeding and careless driving, our death toll, which has increased in the past year, will continue to increase.
