Answer

Share the Road to Zero is an initiative which aims to reduce road deaths by encouraging all of us to think about our shared responsibilities as road users, to be aware of our surroundings, and take more care when out and about.

Once subscribers have signed up to Share the Road to Zero they receive weekly road safety advice and information from the Highway Code NI. Our key message is, as always, reduce your speed, wear a seatbelt, pay attention, ignore the phone and never ever drive having taken alcohol or drugs and drive.

Share The Road to Zero currently reaches 33,367 newsletter subscribers. On social media, the campaign has built a strong presence with 36,000 followers on Facebook, 4,148 on X and is actively growing its audience on Instagram.

In the last 30 days on Facebook, Share The Road to Zero has had a reach of 1.7 million. The two best performing posts were ‘Just Because’, which is about pedestrian safety and another on the use of brake lights for drivers.

Within the past two years, sporting organisations and individuals, business and road safety organisations and local councils have lent their support to the initiative which has helped its messaging reach new audiences in different ways.

A strategy has been devised to support the Share the Road to Zero campaign. It is embedded within our Road Safety Strategy to 2030. The strategy sets a target of reducing road deaths and serious injuries by 50% by 2030, with a long-term goal of zero fatalities by 2050. The action plans include performance indicators and progress tracking.
