Answer
The Road Safety Strategy to 2030 is an overarching document that identifies the Strategic Priority areas we – government, organisations and road users – must focus our efforts on in order to overcome challenges and deliver on the strategic outcomes connected with Safe People, Safe Roads and Safe Vehicles. The annual action plans that accompany the Strategy reflect the current and emerging trends in road safety. These actions are developed and lead by my and other departments and our road safety partner organisations in the emergency services.
I have recently received briefing and advice from officials on a number of speeding related measures, including a review of penalty fines for speeding. Officials are now considering the next steps and way forward. A new Action Plan is currently being developed and will reflect this work.
