Answer
The Belfast Cycle Network Delivery Plan (BCN) was published in March 2022. The typical design period for a scheme of the nature within the plan is around two years, and often involves engagement with the public on emerging options. This is generally followed by statutory processes to legislate a cycle route before the scheme can proceed to construction.
In 2023 sections of the Forth Meadow Community Greenway were delivered in partnership with Belfast City Council and an innovative, environmentally friendly, street lighting scheme along the urban section of the Comber Greenway was also completed.
My officials are currently developing the majority of the projects on the BCN short-term scheme list, covering the period 2022 – 2025 and aim to bring a number of these projects forward for public consultation and then construction in 2024.
